Below you'll find new session information for presentations, workshops, and roundtable sessions. Session details are subject to change as is our schedule.
This session will revisit best practices to achieve zero touch deployment for macOS using JAMF. Concepts can apply to most other MDMs as well.
Zero touch deployments are the goal of every endpoint support team. At the height of the pandemic, no-contact deliveries of new systems for our faculty and staff forced us to to improve our rollouts and assume that we wouldn't have the luxury of seeing someone in person to get their system up and running. Our current process applies to Apple computers with both the Intel and Silicon chipsets, and has resulted in a significant drop in service tickets for assistance with new computer setups. We have a similarly streamlined process in place for iPad deployments as well.
Learn how to quickly build scripts to deploy software to Windows endpoints by reviewing examples of the popular PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit used at VCU.
Chances are, many of the apps you deploy regularly have been packaged using this method and may be able to save you time by quickly adapting PowerShell code for your own deployments. Most packages are reusable even without having to rely on MECM (Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager) and can be adapted to other platforms with little effort to rehost installers.
On Friday, May 17th, join our hands-on workshop to apply concepts explained in the presentation to build your own PSADT pacakges!
An overview of how we turned a contentious relationship with some of our colleges into a partnership.
Learn how Eric's new role as department head of the Academic Research Computing group at Grand Valley State University led him on a journey to mend fences across the university. Before joining the university, many felt the IT department had left them out in the cold. After spending the first few months on a "look, listen, and learn" tour, time was spent rebuilding relationships and forming partnerships where previously there had been none. Today, GVSU is in a much better place, and these partnerships are proving fruitful for all involved as partners continue to adapt and grow in both IT and the colleges.
Simple Help is a desktop support solution for remote assistance. It enables support teams to efficiently troubleshoot and resolve issues for remote users through features such as remote desktop access, secure connections, screen sharing, file transfer, and real-time chat. Additionally, the platform offers customizable support tools and event log reporting. Simple Help enhances productivity, minimizes downtime, and maximizes user satisfaction in remote desktop support scenarios by facilitating seamless communication and assistance regardless of location.
At Sarah Lawrence College, we use Simple Help as a desktop support solution tailored to streamline the assistance process for support agents and end-users. It offers a range of features designed to simplify troubleshooting and problem resolution, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of desktop support services. With Simple Help, support agents can remotely access and control users' desktops to diagnose issues, perform software installations, configure settings, and remote desktops in real-time. Simple Help offers robust remote support for a reasonable price.
It is important to note that NC State is still undergoing a digital transformation. On-going national and global cybersecurity threats are driving a need to adapt and change operations at a faster pace than ever before.
Much of this talk will be focused on both existing focus areas, however additional challenges that will need to be addressed in some way in the near future will also be discussed. The cybersecurity team at NC State University works with customers to understand businesses requirement as well as on-going challenges to help provide critical insights to decision makers to make informed decisions related to IT security transformation. Although cybersecurity is thought of as an IT activity, it is so much more. It is the integral part of all areas of the university to manage risk and assets (including data). It is more about people than technology.
This session will cover tools leveraged by NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill student help desks. The presentation will give perspectives from both school's student workers and compare and contrast how these tools help our workflow.
In the session we plan to cover how the NCSU and UNC help desks are using the following products: Google Workspace (Google Drive for documentation and Google Chat for helping clients and communication between teams), Zoom (helping end-users remotely), ServiceNow (ticketing System to manage issues from end-users), and SnipeIT (equipment inventory system).
In this presentation, Kaurwaki will provide an overview of the digital tools, interactive spaces, and technical support services offered to end-users by the College of Sciences Mathematics IT Service Desk
An overview of the digital tools and interactive spaces offered by the COS Mathematics IT Service Desk to end-users. These tools and services significantly improve user experience—by providing access to technologies that expand and revolutionize their teaching capabilities—and user interaction with common applications. Tools that will be covered include XCreds, Code 42, and the Revolution Lightboard Studio space.
The UNC CAUSE Apple Manager SIG group will meet and present "Ted Talk" style, 5-by-5 presentations on IT solutions that are working well on their campus. Join us for a few different "lightning rounds" from different UNC 17 institutions show casing how they provide IT that works.
Frank Kolavo, founder of Computer Comforts, Inc. (founded 1987), will be joined by a client from UNC to discuss their collaboration on a popular new lectern design which is now being used on campus.
The University challenged CCI to create a 'universal' solution that could be used in a wide variety of classrooms. This modular 'building-block' approach would allow the college the flexibility to decide how to configure the lectern at the time of install. In addition, UNC required a sit-to-stand instructor's table that was also wheelchair friendly. Finally, keeping the AV cabinet cool and dust free was the final challenge. Heat and dust are the enemy of any AV installation. This new lectern will be on display at Frank's presentation. Stop by to kick the tires!
